Course information
The beginners adult group guitar lessons classes take place over ten weeks at Strathbrock Community Centre, Broxburn. The second level & advanced guitar workshops take place at Deans Community High School, Livingston, West Lothian The course at Strathbrock is suitable for beginners who have played little or no guitar before as well as those in the early stages of learning. The courses at Deans are for students who have previously attended either one to one private guitar lessons or beginners guitar group class.
The class is aimed at giving you a basic understanding of how to play the guitar, in a relaxed, informative and friendly environment. I choose well known and popular songs including some songs selected by the group, to encourage practice and to learn the skills required to play guitar.
By learning a musical instrument, such as the guitar, you are opening a door to your own understanding and greater enjoyment of something that touches everyones life on a daily basis. Make a sound. Share the music.
You will need to bring your own guitar as they are not provided during the lesson.
The course covers
- learning how to play basic major and minor chords
- strumming techniques
- fingerstyle patterns
- scales (chromatic - pentatonic - diatonic)
- basic theory
- reading tab
- melody and song structure
- guitar tunings
Location
The beginners guitar classes are held at Strathbrock Community Centre, Broxburn, EH52 5LH and Deans Community High School, Eastwood Park, Livingston, EH54 8PS. Click on the venue name for directions.

Duration
The class is 50 minutes in duration with 10 minutes setting up and packing away time allowed.
Cost: £55 per student
All lesson notes and practice sheets are included in the cost. There will also be a private area on my website which will feature videos, songs, etc. to accompany the course.
Reserve your place
Places are limited. To secure your place or register your interest, please complete the form below. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or paypal on or before the first day. Cheques should be made payable to Peter Kavanagh. Pete will contact you to confirm details.
Terms & conditions
- Course is subject to a confirmed number quota. All monies will be refunded in the unlikely event of the course not proceeding.
- Lessons run over ten consectutive weeks, unless otherwise advised by tutor.
- Spaces within this course are subject to availability. A full refund will be issued if payment has been received and there are no spaces available.
- Contact details must be provided before lessons commence. This data is held by Pete Kavanagh and will be treated with the strictest of confidence.
- Lessons missed or cancelled by students will not be refunded. Students will not be charged for lessons cancelled or postponed.
- Students must not cause harm or damage to property within the school grounds. Anyone found to have damaged property will be charged accordingly, any further lessons will be cancelled with no refund due.
- Pete will terminate lessons indefinitely and without refund to any student that behaves in an anti-social manner during lessons.
- Pete Kavanagh operates within Deans Community High School and Strathbrock Community Centre under their terms and conditions. These terms and conditions, where appropriate, apply to all attendees of Pete Kavanagh's group guitar lessons.
Privacy statement
I will not disclose your email address to any third party for any reason. The only exception to this rule being in the case of slanderous or abusive email, where I reserve the right to forward copies to the police.
