Course information

The childrens' guitar classes take place over twelve weeks at Deans Community High School, Livingston, Regal Community Theatre, Bathgate & Strathbrock Community Centre, Broxburn, West Lothian. The class is suitable for beginners who have played little or no guitar before as well as those in the early stages of learning. PLEASE NOTE: Beginners classes at Deans & Strathbrock will be commencing in September 2012.

The class is aimed at giving your child a basic understanding of playing the guitar in a safe, fun and friendly environment. I choose well known and popular songs including some songs selected by the children, to encourage them to practice and learn the skills required to play, including Smoke on the Water, She's Electric, Day-tripper, Jason Mraz I'm Yours, plus lots of others. I have an enhanced Disclosure Scotland.

Children have a natural love of music and extensive research has shown that exposing children to music stimulates their overall intelligence and emotional development, encouraging creativity and self-confidence.

Children will need to bring their own guitar as they are not provided during the lesson. Pete is more than happy to advise you if you are unsure of the type of guitar you need to purchase.

The course covers

  • learning how to play basic major and minor chords
  • strumming techniques
  • fingerstyle patterns
  • scales
  • reading tab
  • melody and song structure
  • about the the guitar (parts of the guitar, how to hold it, replacing strings, tuning and accessories)

When do the lessons commence?

Bathgate guitar lessons: The next stage of lessons at The Regal Community Theatre, Bathgate will commence on 30th June 2012. Pre-registration is required to attend these classes. Pete will be hosting an introductory guitar class for children at The Regal on Saturday 9th June. It's a FREE LESSON and an excellent opportunity to meet potential students and their parents and answer any queries you have regarding the guitar course. Guitars will provided on the day. If you'd like your child to be involved, get in touch. ouchers are also available.

Strathbrock guitar lessons: September 2012

Duration

The class is 50 minutes in duration with 10 minutes setting up and packing away time allowed.

Cost: £55 per student

Payment can be made by cash or cheque on the first day or by paypal prior to class commencement.

Lesson notes and practice sheets plus a folder to store them in is provided free of charge. There will also be a private area on my website where children can log in to access an online guitar tuner, course notes, practice songs to play along with, plus lots of other goodies.

Where are the lessons held?

The classes are held at The Regal Community Theatre, 24-34 North Bridge Street, Bathgate, EH48 4PS, Deans Community High School, Eastwood Park, Livingston, EH54 8PS and Strathbrock Community Centre, Main Street, Broxburn, EH52 5LH.

    By booking these lessons, you agree to be bound to the following terms and conditions:

    • Lessons run over twelve weeks, unless otherwise advised by tutor. The lessons may not run over consectutive weeks; Pete will advise any changes to dates in advance.
    • Spaces within this course are subject to availability. A full refund will be issued if payment has been received and there are no spaces available.
    • Contact details of the students' parents or guardians’ including address and contact number, must be provided before lessons commence. This data is held by Pete Kavanagh and will be treated with the strictest of confidence.
    • Lessons missed or cancelled by students will not be refunded. Students will not be charged for lessons cancelled or postponed.
    • Children must be collected on time. Pete Kavanagh is not responsible for children who have not been collected at the end of the lesson.
    • Pete must be informed in advance if a family member or friend is collecting a student after class.
    • Students must not cause harm or damage to property within the school grounds. Anyone found to have damaged property will be charged accordingly, any further lessons will be cancelled with no refund due.
    • Pete will terminate lessons indefinitely and without refund to any student that misbehaves or causes disruption during lessons.
    • Pete Kavanagh operates within Deans Community High School, The Regal Community Theatre and Starthbrock Community Centre under their terms and conditions. These terms and conditions, where appropriate, apply to all attendees of Pete Kavanagh's group guitar lessons.
